NMAPC Zero Injury Safety Awards Program Celebrates Record Number of Winners
ARLINGTON, VA - The National Maintenance Agreements Policy Committee, Inc. (NMAPC) is pleased to announce that it has received a record number of winning entries for the 13th Annual Zero Injury Safety AwardsTM, the union construction industry's premier safety recognition program.
For the most current reporting cycle - calendar year 2012 - a whopping 98 tripartite teams (the highest number of winners in the history of the program) logged more than 18.2 million injury-free work hours (the second-highest total hours in the program's history). These figures both represent a huge increase over the last reporting cycle (calendar year 2011), when there were 71 winners and just over 13.5 million injury-free hours worked.
The winning tripartite teams will be honored at this year's ZISATM Gala, which takes place October 24th at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.
Each Zero Injury Safety AwardTM recognizes an alliance between owner-clients, signatory contractors and local and international unions who worked together in a tripartite fashion to achieve zero injuries on their projects.
"If anyone has ever doubted the union construction industry's commitment to safety, the results of this year's Zero Injury Safety AwardsTM should settle the argument once and for all," said Steve Lindauer, Impartial Secretary and CEO of the NMAPC. "The fact that the ZISATM Program continues to grow by leaps and bounds proves that our clients, contractors and partners in the building trades have their priorities straight. Yes, we want our industry to continue to grow. And yes, we want our contractors to be successful. But more than anything, we want the men and women who turn the wrenches and lift the beams to go home safely to their families every evening."
This year, in recognition of the historic number of awards, representatives from the winning teams each received a copy of The Employer Safety Guidebook to Zero Employee Injury by Emmitt Nelson, the safety expert who pioneered the zero injury concept (Nelson was presented with a special award recognizing his efforts at the 2010 ZISATM Gala).
